Project : Gift:The Well

The Well is a short promo used to achieve several aims.

• To hopefully raise some interest in the bigger story of Gift.
• To help explore the design language of various aspects of the story
• To ascertain just what would be possible within the boundaries of the technology
• To create something very cool!

With this in mind, Gift:The Well is, in part, a back story for one of the key, and perhaps more interesting, characters of Gift.

Dirt.

More can be found out about Dirt in the character brief, but he is basically a guy who has been exposed to the truth of the lie, who has been made into, and then un-made from, an cyborg-ish fighting machine for the false war. Because of this, the Makarium (whom he refers to as They) pumped his brain full of military facts, equations, specs etc. So much so that his natural personality has been pushed out, or almost pushed out. There was enough of it left for him to escape the bonds of the Makarium, and to try to rebuild and rediscover who he was. But also, there was enough of his personality left for him to have nightmares about the things he had done as a cyborg.

Hence the line ....

"Out there, in the empty of this place, I can forget things I can't remember, and remember things I don't want to."

In the promo, we use the voice of Dirt as a monologue, to explain a little of his own back story, and, I hope, enough of the larger story for people to become interested, and ask questions of the bigger world of Gift.

Simply, the promo starts with Dirt looking at stars, a single, long shot takes us from those stars to the Battle Arena in the Well, culminating in the Battle Bot S.A.B.B. roaring his battle cry.

A screenplay of the promo will be posted soon, from which many more details can gleaned.
