Project : Gift

Basic Idea.

A race of peoples that have an addiction to war, but when there is no war left to fight, they make one up.
A myth, based on a lie.

Story Approach.

Journey of one individual to find the truth of the lie, twist is that those that appear to be the good guys, are in fact the bad guys.
Loss of friends and family as a result of the lie, with no apparent reproach by the rulers.
Possible dissent within the ruling class, a hint/seed planted in our hero's brain to start the journey. (matrix type ideas, what is real?)
Side stories important, though linked to the main thread, also as the matter is dark, must be some sort of relief, comedic?
Industry v Nature (?) (Been a bit over done I feel)
Perhaps part of the story could be the escape from the metropolis?

Must be a back story, the creation of the myth, much like the prologue of LotR.

Story Synopsis

Coming soon.

Production.
100% cg film, with all that is possible as a result of that.
V-long shots, realistic render, so make the characters sufficiently non-human to escape uncanny valley.

Production Design

Industrial Diesel-Punk, dark and foreboding city scape, overly large and ornate industrial cathedrals, very few neon lights, most street lights are arc-lights, and home lights are not very bright. That said, there has to be some contrast, so high-fashion is quite decadent for woman, and military for men. But then there is sub-culture fashion too, as well as teenage fashion, need to differentiate between those.
Architechture depends on the area of the city. In the larger city, is should be both high tech and slum. Quite literally, the higher "class" of people live higher up the towers, at street level it's not a very nice place. There should be areas of slum around places such as dockyards etc. This is a city based on a society of war.
On the flip-side, there is The Well, a melting pot of everything cosmopolitain. Anything and everything goes in this area, but I think the backbone of the design should be based around old Hong Kong. It is much more alive than the larger city.

There will be more specific briefs to follow.
